You have one, your business has one, your friends have one, your family members have one. I won’t call a necessity but, nowadays, almost everyone has a Facebook. Facebook is a great tool for marketing and staying connected with your friends. Some people tend to be obsessed with it, almost, addicted to it. We all know that girl that constantly takes pictures of herself doing nothing with the outstretched arm on her smart phone or that guy who complains about how terrible his life is every night. Maybe, you are friends with that college student who seems to have the hardest classes ever. However, while people may abuse Facebook, most of us know how much is too much. But why is Facebook so popular? What makes this model so attractive to us?
First thing is first, Facebook is Free
Facebook offers a free service and gives you this page that you can make all about yourself and not just yourself your fun-self your entertaining-self. It is not some type of resume that you need to be extremely professional or some type of respectable bio, you get to show everyone how interesting you are. Most people aren’t all just business. Most of us want to work and make a comfortable living to support ourselves to be entertained. Most of us want to just hang out. That is why we go to Facebook. It’s called social media, right? So, we go to Facebook to be social because, if you’re like me, you like to hang out with your friends and be social. Also, what do you want for your business? you want it to get exposure for free and show everyone how entertaining and interesting your business is. You can keep your friends and followers up to date on different deals and services you offer. So we go to Facebook because it is free and it is social because, most of the time, we just want to hang out.
Second, It is an advertising gold mine
Being a salesman, I would love it if I were able to go somewhere to find out all my potential prospects interests and I wouldn’t even have to ask them they would show me. Yeah, I could just go on Facebook and be myself, post stuff that is interesting just because I’m hanging out and advertisers target me from what I post. Ads work on Facebook because they are super laser targeted to potential customers. Plus, because we are all just being social, it is where everyone is. So advertisers hit a large market and target you by the stuff you post about. Ah, it is so simple.
What I have learned from this is offer something free that creates value or interest. Use this to keep connected with your friends (prospects) and just be yourself to keep them interested or entertained. This is why I try to blog everyday (provide free information), I try to get people to sign up for my newsletter (more free stuff), and I don’t try to sell them all the time. I just want to hang out and be social because we share the same interests. Then, maybe, at some point, we could share ideas, and do business that has the most value and benefit to you or we could all just be hanging out.
